Update: Jockey Calvin Borel Breaks Leg In Nasty Spill

Hall of Fame jockey Calvin Borel broke his leg in a nasty spill at Keeneland on Wednesday, according to a post on his Facebook page.

The three-time Kentucky Derby winning jockey was thrown from his mount, ‘Sonic Dancer,’ in the sixth race.

The horse had to be euthanized due to a mid-shaft cannon bone fracture in its right front leg.

Borel was taken from the track to U.K. Hospital.

An initial report from Keeneland said Borel was complaining of leg pain and suffering from concussion-like symptoms.

Wednesday night, Borel’s wife Lisa posted this update on her husband’s Facebook page:

"My phone is about to die but just wanted to let everyone know we are so thankful for the thoughts and concerns – we are so lucky today – Calvin Borel had a horrible spill but managed to walk away w only a broken Fibula (lesser bone connecting knee to ankle) no concussion or soft tissue injuries we are very lucky considering how hard he fell.  Prayers to the connections of the fallen horse, and thanks to God above for keeping Boo from further harm today, it could have been much much worse."

The turf race was declared a no-contest.
