SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Interstate 64 in central Kentucky has reopened after a five-vehicle wreck that left one person dead and caused minor injuries for three others.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the crash happened Wednesday afternoon near mile marker 35 in Shelby County.

Kentucky State Police say the preliminary investigation indicates all five vehicles were traveling west on I-64. Police say traffic had slowed where a motorist had stopped for assistance, and a tractor-trailer hit a passenger car. Three other vehicles were damaged in a chain reaction.

Police said the driver of the vehicle hit by the tractor-trailer was pronounced dead at the scene, and three other people were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The interstate was closed for several hours, and the scene was cleared about 8:30 p.m. EDT.
