UPDATE: Crews dig to find septic tank in search for Melanie Flynn
MERCER COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Search crews spent Thursday digging for a septic tank after receiving a “credible tip” that it would contain the remains of a Lexington woman who went missing 42-years ago, according to investigators.
Lexington Police and Kentucky State Police have spent the week searching at Murphy’s Landing along the Kentucky River and U.S. 68 at the Jessamine-Mercer County line in hopes of finding the body of Melanie Flynn. She disappeared in 1977.
There has been speculation for years that Flynn’s disappearance was tied to the so-called ‘Bluegrass Conspiracy’ drug ring that reportedly involved crooked Lexington Police officers and prominent people in the community.
Lexington Police confirmed to ABC 36 News that the search site is being guarded 24-hours a day to make sure nothing is disturbed.
On Wednesday, Lexington Police asked the public for historic photos of Murphy’s Landing from the 1950’s through the 1970’s that may show what buildings or other structures were there at the time.
