UPDATE: Charges filed in New Year’s Day shooting
LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two people were charged Monday in connection to a New Year’s Day shooting in Laurel County, according to the sheriff.
Investigators say 45-year old Zachary Lee Thompson, of Corbin, was charged with assault, wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
31-year old Sarah Renay Mills, of Corbin, was charged with tampering with physical evidence. She’s accused of removing a handgun used in the shooting and giving it to another person, according to deputies.
Both Thompson and Mills were already in the jail on unrelated charges when they were charged in the January 2017 shooting case, according to deputies.
Investigators say shortly after 5:00 p.m. on January 1, 2017, deputies were called to a report of a break-in with shots fired on Adams Road, approximately ten miles south of London.
Deputies say when they arrived they found 32-year old Charles Rogers, of Corbin, suffering from gunshot wounds. They say Brice Aldridge, of Tennessee, was also injured.
Investigators say apparently there was a dispute between Rogers and Zachary Lee Thompson that led to the shooting. They say Thompson left the scene before deputies arrived.
Rogers ended up at UK Hospital in Lexington to be treated for his wounds.
