UPDATE: Blue Grass Airport Flights Still Impacted By Fire In Chicago

Some flights to and from Chicago were canceled on Monday at Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport due to a fire last week at a Chicago-area air traffic facility.

The fire last Friday brought flights at Chicago’s two busy airports to a halt and disrupted air service across the country, including in Lexington.

Authorities said the fire was set by a contract employee who also tried to commit suicide.

Controllers from the damaged facility were shifted to other air traffic centers and operations were expanded at other Chicago-area control facilities to get service at O’Hare up to 60-percent capacity and 75-percent at Midway on Monday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The FAA said it hoped to have the facility back up and running by October 13.
