Update: Attorney For Accused Strip Club Shooter Claims Self-Defense

The attorney for a man accused of gunning down another man outside a Lexington strip club, claimed his client acted in self-defense.

A not guilty plea was entered Thursday in Fayette District Court for Joshua Lee Tevis, 27, who is accused of shooting Johntel Crocker, 22, during an argument in the parking lot of Diva’s Gentleman’s Club on Russell Cave Road on September 22, 2013.

In addition to the murder charge, Tevis is also charged with being a felon in possession of a handgun and being a persistent felony offender, according to court records.

This was the first of two deadly shootings in the strip club parking lot in less than two months.

Lexington Police said Curtis Simmons, 33, was shot several times after getting into an argument with other men on November 13, 2013.

Tevin Wright, 22, is charged in connection to the death of Simmons.

Investigators said the two cases are unrelated.
