University of Kentucky to pay $15K per month for lobbyist
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A Washington, D.C., lobbying firm will earn more than $500,000 during the next three years representing the University of Kentucky.
University officials told the Lexington Herald-Leader (http://bit.ly/1Fsix9H ) that UK will pay Cornerstone Government Affairs about $15,000 a month to help the university win more federal grants and research funding as well as affect federal policy on higher education.
Cornerstone Vice President Michael Higdon is former chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers, a Republican from Kentucky’s 5th District. Rogers is chairman of the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee.
Higdon will lead the UK team and work directly with UK’s director of federal relations, Eric King.
UK received about $183 million in federal grants, contracts and appropriations last year.
