Undercover sting using dating app lands eight men in jail on sex charges
DANVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – An undercover investigation by the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office landed eight men in jail, all accused of using a popular dating app to solicit sex from minors, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators say an undercover deputy posed as a 16-year old boy and received inquiries almost immediately.
Deputies say one man traveled from Mississippi and another from Texas with the belief they would be meeting up with the teenager to have sex.
The suspects were charged with Unlawful Transaction with a Minor 1st Degree-Illegal Sex Act, Victim under 18-years of age and/or Prohibited Use of an Electronic Communication System to Procure Sex from a Minor, according to investigators.
The sheriff’s office says the following were arrested and charged:
49-year old Joseph A. Brown II, of Danville, Kentucky. He was also charged with Attempted Escape 3rd Degree.
23-year old Dequan Brown, of Lebanon, Kentucky.
52-year old Hubert D. Carter, of Ennis, Texas.
46-year old Michael S. Cruse, of Columbus, Mississippi.
28-year old Paul F. Hilpp II, of Lebanon, Kentucky.
40-year old Justin P. Jones, of Stanford, Kentucky.
33-year old Mark A. Shelton, of Stanford, Kentucky.
39-year old Shawn A. Williams, of Springfield, Kentucky.
The Boyle County sheriff says the investigation continues.
