Thanksgiving Travel: 42 Million drivers expected due to lower gas prices
LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ) – Gas prices are lower than they’ve been in a long time. The timing couldn’t be more perfect as millions of Americans will be traveling for Thanksgiving, according to AAA.
AAA expects 42 million people to get on the road this holiday. They say that is the highest number in seven years.
Waze is the world’s largest community-based traffic app. Based on last year’s usage, it expects the worst traffic to be Wednesday from 1 – 3 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The app says drivers should expect the amount of accidents to double and traffic jams to triple. Police are asking that everyone slow down and be safe.
There have been almost 70 more traffic deaths this year compared to this time last year, According to State Police.
AAA reports that half the gas stations in America are selling gas for less than $2.00 a gallon. Indiana and Ohio have the lowest gas prices. Drivers are also paying some of the lowest prices at the pump since 2008.
