UK to require all new hires to be vaccinated
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The University of Kentucky, the largest employer in Lexington, will soon require all new hires to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
UK President Eli Capilouto sent out an email today saying that beginning Oct. 4, all new hires will have to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. That includes student employees.
The requirement for vaccination among new UK employees will take effect with any extended job offers beginning Oct. 18.
The university says it will allow religious and medical exemptions.
Capilouto says it is all part of the effort to have 90% of the UK campus either partially or fully vaccinated. The campus is approaching an 87% vaccination rate, according to Capilouto.
The requirement does not apply to UK Healthcare employees, who were already required to be vaccinated as of Sept. 15.
