UK planning Markey Cancer Center expansion

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The University of Kentucky plans to buy and tear down up to 50 properties to expand the Markey Cancer Center.

The properties are on South Limestone. The area is made up of the 100 blocks of Conn Terrace behind the Shriners Hospital, State Street, University Avenue and the south side of Waller bounded by Elizabeth Street and South Limestone.

The area is mostly made up of rental properties rented by students.

UK said the Cancer Center needs to expand as visits have gone up 20% over the last five years.
