UK not sure how many students got fake coronavirus texts
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – University of Kentucky officials say they don’t know how many
students may have received a fake text Monday telling them they had tested positive for the coronavirus.
But the university responded quickly, advising students and staff the university does not
use texts to notify people of positive or negative tests as part of its campus-wide coronavirus testing program.
“We don’t have any idea how many got that email, but we don’t think it was very widespread. We simply wanted to jump on the issue before it became a significant issue,” UK spokesperson Jay Blanton said.
