UK March Madness tickets a hot commodity

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Solid Blue fans are gearing up for the big game on Thursday when UK will take on either Manhattan or Hampton University during the second round of the NCAA tournament in Louisville.

Game tickets are a hot commodity and getting pricey.

50 lucky UK students will so have tickets to the game in Louisville.

Monday evening the University held a student ticket distribution lottery. About 100 student tickets were available as part of the drawing.

The drawing was only open to full-time UK students and qualifying BCTC students.

For everyone else looking for tickets; the athletic department says tickets for the second and third round games are sold out except for a few all-session packages that UK says are still available through Ticketmaster.

When ABC 36 checked, the NCAA Ticket Exchanged has tickets available starting around $265.00 each.

ABC 36 found tickets on eBay for $58.00.

The Better Business Bureau is warning about ticket scams. The BBB says big sporting events can provide the ultimate opportunity for scammers who are targeting fans desperate to get tickets.

Tips from the BBB:

• If you buy a ticket outside the event or online, remember there are usually no refunds or guarantees. Check out the ticket site at www.bbb.org or call the BBB serving Central & Eastern Kentucky at 1-800-866-6668. Research the ticket site or seller to see if it provides any buyer protections, such as money-back guarantees if tickets are fake.

• Be wary of ticket offers at extreme discount prices – these are generally too good to be true. Buy at your own risk if you choose to use sites like Craig’s List that offer no guarantees or seller identification. NEVER wire funds to strangers to pay for tickets. Always use a credit card for extra protections if the tickets are fake or you don’t receive them.

• The NCAA advises fans to buy from their website, or host schools ticket offices. The NCAA Ticket Exchange is the only guaranteed, NCAA-approved secondary ticket marketplace that allows fans to buy and sell NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship tickets with other fans. Ticket holders who are unable to attend a game or find their team eliminated have a place to safely sell their tickets, and buyers can be assured that the tickets are authentic and guaranteed. Go to www.ncaa.com/tickets.

• Make sure the website is secure before you make a purchase online (look for the padlock and ‘https’ in the address bar).

• Report any suspected ticket scams to local law enforcement and your BBB so that others can be warned

UK will face the winner of the Cincinnati/Purdue second round game.
