UK hosts Cancer Survivorship event

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) —  June is Cancer Survivorship month.  To mark the month, the UK Markey Cancer Center Courtyard hosted the Expressions of Courage event Friday afternoon.

Now in its second year, organizers say Expressions of Courage is a creative exhibit that featured artistic works and performances from cancer patients and their loved ones.

More than 50 patients, friends, and family members will have contributed artistic works or performances this year, officials say, and more than 150 were expected to attend.

In addition to the open exhibits of visual arts, the full schedule of performances included:

1:45 p.m. – First session of literary readings of poems, essays and narratives by patients
2:15 p.m. – Dance exhibitions
3 p.m. – Second session of literary readings of poems, essays and narratives by patients
3:45 p.m. – Vocal and instrumental performances
4:30 p.m. – Closing remarks by cancer survivor Darwin Holloway
