Two tornadoes hit Madison County
Preliminary results from the NWS storm survey show an EF-0 tornado with winds estimated to be more than 80 mph hit the south side of Richmond. A home on Rainbow Ridge had numerous shingles blown off and many of the columns supporting its front porch were also blown away. No one was home when the tornado hit the house.
The short-lived tornado also hit a trailer home next door. Jallie Crabtree was inside the home with her husband when the storm hit.
Crabtree said, “Both of us fall down, and it just so happened I was next to the refrigerator and it fell down going the opposite direction, so whenever I got up, I was laying right next to the refrigerator.”
The couple was not injured, but their trailer home was bent, with one side moving more than five feet off its foundation. The floor in the home now sits at an angle. A shed next to the trailer was blown into a neighbor’s yard.
The NWS said the strongest winds of the tornado stayed just above the ground, preventing even more damage.
A second tornado was also confirmed by the NWS in Madison County. The EF-1 tornado hit Waco, just southeast of the Blue Grass Army Depot. This tornado had winds estimated near 125 mph, touching down near Gumbutton Road.
