Two people killed, baby critically injured in head-on collision

HENDERSON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A violent, head-on collision Friday in Henderson County left two people dead, two people injured, including a baby who suffered life-threatening injuries, according to Kentucky State Police.

KSP says its preliminary investigation shows 24-year-old Braelen Hicks-Schaefer, of Spottsville, was driving a 2006 Toyota Scion east on the Audubon Parkway and crossed the median, colliding head-on with a 2011 Toyota Corolla driven by 62-year-old Tony Reutter, of Henderson.

Reutter’s passenger, 62-year-old Vickie Reutter, of Henderson, died at the scene, according to KSP.

Tony Reutter was taken by ambulance to Saint Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Ind.  His condition was unknown, according to State Police.

Investigators say Hicks-Schaefer had to be cut out of her car and was airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. where she later died.

A baby in Hicks-Schaefer’s car was also taken to Deaconess Hospital. The child’s condition was not known, according to KSP.

The westbound lanes of the Audubon Parkway were closed while KSP reconstructed the collision.

Henderson County Fire Department, Zion, Hebardsville, Baskett and EMS, AMR Ambulance, AMR AirEVAC, Henderson County Coroner’s Office, Henderson County Sheriff’s Department and other agencies assisted troopers at the scene.

The investigation is on-going.
