Two Ohio Men Arrested for Alleged Scam Attempt in Bourbon County

BOURBON COUNTY, Ky. — Two Ohio men are facing charges after allegedly attempting to scam a woman in Bourbon County. According to the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Mayurkumar Patel and 26-year-old Akshay Priyadarshi were involved in an elaborate scheme back in April.

The victim reportedly withdrew money from her bank account and sent it to a Bitcoin location in exchange for gold bars. When the suspects tried to repeat the scam, the woman contacted the Sheriff’s Office, prompting an investigation.

In collaboration with the FBI, deputies say they set up a sting operation and arranged a time for the suspects to pick up the package. Both Patel and Priyadarshi were arrested at the scene.

Originally from India, both suspects are in the United States as students in Ohio. They are charged with conspiracy to commit theft by deception and are currently being held in the Bourbon County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond each.
