Two Knox County deputies shot serving warrant; suspect killed
KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- State Police say two sheriff’s deputies were shot and the suspect was killed in Knox County.
Police say Deputy Keith Liford and Deputy Claude Hudson were at a residence off Ky 225 in Artemus community attempting to serve an indictment warrant on 50-year-old John Bays.
While the deputies were inside the home Bays shot both of them, according to investigators. Police say both deputies returned fire, killing Bays.
Authorities say deputy Liford was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center and is listed in stable condition before going into surgery.
Deputy Hudson was taken by private vehicle to Knox County ARH and then released, according to police.
State Police say a second man at the scene, Brian Simpson, was arrested by Troopers on active arrest warrants.
