Two Colonels earn ASUN weekly recognition
RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ/EKU Athletics) – For the sixth time this season, multiple Eastern Kentucky players have been chosen for ASUN weekly awards.
Quarterback Parker McKinney has been selected as the ASUN Offensive Player of the Week and kicker Patrick Nations was picked as the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week on the heels of EKU’s 42-10 win over Lamar. It marks McKinney’s third ASUN Offensive Player of the Week accolade of this season, while it’s the fifth time Nations has been honored by the conference for his work at his position. Overall, EKU now has 16 total weekly awards from the conference this season.
McKinney put forth one of the best showings of his season against the Cardinals to help the Colonels win their fifth consecutive game. The redshirt sophomore signal caller set a season high for completion percentage and touchdowns, going 15-for-20 for 218 yards and three scores.
The win was McKinney’s third consecutive game with multiple passing touchdowns. In addition, McKinney passed Allan Holland on EKU’s career passing yardage list and moved past Lorenzo Field and Ernie House on the school’s career touchdowns list. He’s now thrown for 4,865 yard and 34 touchdowns in his Colonel career.
Nations was a perfect 6-for-6 on his extra-point attempts and limited Lamar to just one kickoff return, booming six of his seven kickoffs through the end zone for touchbacks. The redshirt freshman is now tied for second in the ASUN with 54 points and leads all kickers in scoring.
Eastern Kentucky travels to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
