Twelve students with Down syndrome complete noncredit college course at BCTC
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- In the first-ever partnership between the Down Syndrome Association of Central Kentucky and Bluegrass Community and Technical College, 12 adults with Down syndrome got to live out their dream of going to college.
The eight-week public speaking course they participated in culminated Monday with student speech presentations and a certificate ceremony.
DSACK and BCTC’s Workforce Solutions partnered to offer the course after Brewer discovered there were no full-time college programs in the area for people with intellectual disabilities. She approached BCTC and the public speaking course was born. A second public speaking course will be offered in the spring.
