Trout fishermen rescued from Red River Gorge

MENIFEE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- Search crews rescued two fishermen lost in the Red River Gorge Tuesday night.

Menifee County Search and Rescue says around 8:30 p.m. the 911 center received a call from the two fishermen. Menifee County’s search team couldn’t field a full team so it had to turn the rescue over to Wolfe County’s team.

According to Wolfe County Search and Rescue, two young men had been fishing earlier in the day and became disoriented as they tried to take a short cut when following Google Maps to get back to their car.

The pair reportedly thought they were fishing on Indian Creek, but were acutally on Wolfepen Creek.

A group of four team members found the two fishermen on a cliff line.

The crew says it took some time to figure out how to get to the fishermen and how to get them, but they had them down the cliff and back to their car by around 11 p.m.

The team suggests if you plan to use a mobile device for maps, use a GPS program that allows you to download maps so you can access them even in areas with no cell service. The team says it uses a program called Gaia GPS.
