Trooper injured in crash during high-speed chase

LIVERMORE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A State Trooper was injured and his cruiser damaged in a crash during a high-speed chase on Thursday.

Investigators say Trooper Adam Wright was patrolling McLean County just after 2:00 p.m., when he pulled over the driver of a 2000 Saturn Aura for speeding on US 431.

KSP says as Trooper Wright approached the car, the driver took off.  The Trooper began a pursuit and learned that the car was reported stolen out of Owensboro.

The chase wound its way into Muhlenberg County, back into McLean County on KY 81, at times reaching speeds near 100 miles per hour, according to State Police.

McLean County Sheriff’s deputies joined the pursuit.  Investigators say the suspect drove onto Bunn Cobb Road, just south of Rumsey.

KSP says during the chase, Trooper Wright failed to see a sharp curve and crashed into an earth embankment.  Trooper Wright suffered minor facial lacerations and was treated at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.  His cruiser suffered moderate-to-heavy damage.

After the Trooper’s crash, the suspect continued on KY 138 and at KY 2110, McLean County Sheriff’s deputies boxed-in the suspect.  KSP says the driver stopped and was arrested without further incident.

He was identified by State Police as 50-year old Tony E. Vanover, of Owensboro.  He was taken to the Daviess County Detention Center in Owensboro where he faces nine separate charges, according to KSP.
