Transylvania University names interim president
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Transylvania University announced Friday it has selected an interim president.
The university says John Norton Williams Jr. will take over beginning August 15, 2019.
Current Transylvania University president Seamus Carey is leaving to serve as president of Iona College in New York.
Williams, who graduated from the university in 1974 and is a member of the university’s Board of Trustees, is completing a nine-year term as the dean of the Indiana University School of Dentistry in June, according to the university.
During an academic career that spans three decades, Williams has held provost and dean positions at Indiana University, the University of North Carolina and the University of Louisville.
He holds a Doctor of Dental Medicine and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Louisville, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Transylvania.
Transylvania University says it plans to conduct a national search for a permanent president beginning with the appointment of a search committee this summer.
The search will be open to both internal and external candidates.
