Traffic Alert: Section Of Jefferson Street Closed In Lexington Due To Gas Leak
Jefferson Street was closed from Second Street to Maryland Avenue in Lexington Thursday afternoon due to a gas leak.
Officials said even though the gas line was properly marked, construction crews hit it anyway, which forced the evacuation of two nearby homes as a precaution.
Officials said no one was hurt.
Columbia Gas said repairs were expected to take until 8:30.m. or 9:00 p.m. tonight and that the road would remain closed until then.
Officials reminded everyone that before you dig for any reason, state law requires that you call 8-1-1 and get all underground lines and cables marked so they’re not damaged during construction.
