Tips from Emergency Management ahead of severe weather

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky is no stranger to severe weather, but officials are sending out reminders ahead of Friday to make sure everyone stays safe, knows what to expect and how to prepare.

Emily Fay with Lexington-Fayette Emerfency Management says get your house ready on both the inside and the outside.

“Picking up any loose debris that could blow in the wind like tree limbs or lawn furniture, garden gnomes,” she said.

The area is also likely to see power outages from strong winds.

“Go ahead and make sure you have everything you need for about 72 hours,” Fay said.

She recommends having a cooler with ice ready for refigerated items like food or medication.

“If you’re preparedm, it’s a lot easier to handle what comes your way,” Fay said.
