Tigers take down #4 UPIKE, 73-60

GEORGETOWN, KY (GC Athletics)- Jacob Conway gave a big wake up call to the Mid-South Conference Saturday afternoon in a Top 5 showdown. The No. 4 University of Pikeville Bears came to town and the senior scored more than half the visitors final total. He tallied a new career-high in conference play with 31 points as the No. 1 Tigers (12-0, 2-0) rolled to a 73-60 win.

UPike coach Kelly Wells had to use three time outs in the first half, twice in response to big shots made by Conway. The Hustonville, Ky. native previous high of 15 points against Campbellsville University this past year was shattered during Georgetown and Scott County First Responders Day.

His freshman season he managed 19 points total against MSC competition and just 37 in his second year. His hard work and determination proved invaluable in his junior season as he had 109 points in league play and five double digit games.

However, Conway started strong with 14 points in a December win over University of the Cumberlands and could not be stopped by the Bears (14-1, 2-1) nearly a month later. He scored inside (7-of-13), he scored outside (4-of-9), he was perfect from the foul line (5-of-5) and he added six rebounds with no turnovers in 38-plus minutes.

Eljay Cowherd chipped in with 14 points, while Chris Coffey had another double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Georgetown returns to action 8 pm Monday at Shawnee State University.
