Three people taken to hospital after Lexington fire…one with life-threatening burns

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- An apartment fire Thursday night in Lexington sent three people to the hospital, one with life threatening burn wounds.

The Lexington Fire Department says it responded to the fire just after 7:45 p.m. on Fontaine Road near Southland Christian Church’s Richmond Road campus. A neighbor stepped outside, smelled smoke, and called firefighters.

Fire crews say they saw smoke and flames in the apartment’s entryway and quickly put the fire out.

Firefighters also found three people inside. A man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A woman suffered serious injuries, but firefighters expect her to survive. Firefighters also say they found a boy who was hurt, but will be okay.

Firefighters say the people inside weren’t trapped. They’re not sure why they didn’t leave the apartment on their own.

The apartment had what firefighters are calling mild damage and no other apartments were damaged.

According to the department, a fire investigator is working to figure out how and where the fire started.
