UPDATE: Laurel County car crash victims identified; includes two children

UPDATE: (3/2/18) – The identities of three people who died after an early-morning wreck have been released.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, Gloria Faye Engle, 72, was driving the car that officials say pulled out in front of a pickup truck, driven by Chad Brent Sturgill, 30.

Engle and her two grandchildren, 8-year-old Hannah Belcher, and 14-year-old Joshua Belcher, all died in the crash.

Officials say they believe the sun could be a factor in why Engle pulled out in front of the oncoming truck.

According to the sheriff, Sturgill was not injured.


LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – An early-morning wreck in Laurel County leaves three people dead.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened at 7:24 a.m. at the intersection of Sinking Creek Road and KY 80 in the westbound lanes.

Deputies say a passenger car pulled into the path of a pickup truck causing the two vehicles to collide.

Three people in the car were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

No one in the pickup was injured.
