Ten-mile police chase ends in arrests; one suspect still at-large

EAST BERNSTADT, Ky. (WTVQ) – A ten-mile police chase in Laurel County ended in the arrest of two people while a third suspect got away and is still on the run, according to State Police.

Investigators say it all began Thursday morning when a State Trooper saw a reckless driver southbound on I-75, three miles north of London.

State Police say the driver of the 2016 Toyota Corolla refused to stop. Investigators say the car got off I-75 at Exit 41, drove through London for several miles, turned onto Highway 25, then onto KY 490 and finally onto KY 3094 in East Bernstadt.

State Police say they performed a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT Maneuver). After the car finally stopped, three people got out and took off running, according to KSP.

After a short foot chase, the driver, 33-year old Dion Davis, of Calumet Park, Illinois, was arrested along with one of his passengers, 33-year old Veronica Velaquez, of Midlothin, Illinois, according to State Police.

The third suspect escaped into a wooded area, according to investigators.

Davis and Velaquez were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
