Temperatures improve Wednesday

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Happy Wednesday! We finally warm-up a little on for your day today. Temperatures begin the day in the upper 30s and low 40s for most, and will climb into the upper 50s and low 60s by the afternoon. It will be breezy once again today as well. You can expect sustained winds from 10-20 mph, with gusts upwards of 30-35 mph. With the dry conditions and breezy winds, there is an elevated brush fire risk. Be sure adhere to the spring fire season laws. In Kentucky, it is illegal to burn anything within 150 feet of any woodland or brush land between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. between February 15th and April 30th.

A weak cold front sweeps through the region later today. This front is “dry”, meaning we won’t see any rain as the front passes. However, we will see a noticeable drop in temperatures. It will be in the mid-20s for most of the region to begin the day on Thursday. Afternoon highs won’t be much better either, only reaching the upper 40s and low 50s.

We will be tracking some rain heading into the day on Friday. The bulk of the rain will be moving in during the midday through the evening hours. Southern and southeastern Kentucky will see more rain than areas north and west of Lexington. Half an inch or more of rain is possible for southern and southeastern Kentucky, while a quarter of an inch of rain or less of rain is in the forecast for areas north and west of Lexington. A few lingering showers will be possible early Saturday morning but conditions will dry out throughout the day.

Temperatures improve to close out the weekend and into early next week. Enjoy Sunday and Monday though, because active weather returns by the middle of next week.

Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.
