Temperatures heat up ahead of rain and storms

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Thursday! It was another pleasant morning out there but like yesterday we will be heating up this afternoon. Expect temperatures to climb into the upper 80s and low 90s for most of the region. The humidity will start to become a bit more noticeable during the second half of the day as southerly flow returns.

This heat and added humidity will be fueling storm chances late tonight into your day on Friday. Rounds of showers and storms will be moving through the region ahead of a cold front approaching from the west. A few storms on Friday and into Saturday could be on the strong-to-severe end. All of the ABC 36 viewing area has a Level 1 Severe Risk for both Friday and Saturday. Localized flooding could also be possible within the strongest storms. This system isn’t moving particularly fast so we’ve upped the rain chance a bit on Saturday, especially east of I-75.

The cold front will pass through late Saturday and that will allow temperature to drop into the low 80s by Sunday. There will be some lingering rain showers off and on throughout the day on Sunday. Central Kentucky should dry out by Monday, but eastern Kentucky will keep an isolated chance around on Monday.

Temperatures will be feeling like Fall once again by the middle of next week. Overnight lows return to the 50s for most locations, a few low 50s will be possible again as well. Afternoon highs will likely stay near to below normal through the middle of the week. Most of the week will stay dry outside of the rain chance out east on Monday. We do expect warmer conditions to return by next weekend.

Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.
