Teen dies after jumping from moving school bus in Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Official say a teenage boy has died in Kentucky after jumping from a moving school bus.

Louisville police Maj. LaVita Chavous told The Courier-Journal that the student, who was about 16 years old, went out through the front door of the bus. She didn’t know how he managed to leave the bus or why the door was open while the bus was moving.

Chavous said a preliminary investigation indicates the boy hit the pavement and was killed. Chavous said the teen was a student at Brooklawn Home, a state agency school.

Jefferson County Public Schools spokeswoman Allison Martin said the bus was taking students from school to a state agency.

Police said there was no indication the bus driver was at fault.

Crisis response teams were dispatched to the state agency, where the students live.
