Suspicious fires have people nervous in Mt. Vernon neighborhood
MOUNT VERNON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Neighbors at a trailer park in Mount Vernon suspect an arsonist may be behind three fires set there within days of each other on the same street.
Mount Vernon Police say no one lived in the first two trailers that burned, but a woman does live in the third trailer that caught fire Wednesday, but she was not home at the time of the fire.
The woman’s neighbor, Daryl Mink, and his wife were living with their daughter in the trailer park when their home a few feet away caught fire, destroying irreplaceable family belongings.
The couple’s dog was tied up to the trailer and had to be rescued.
Mink says the animal’s paws were burned.
Frightened neighbors told ABC 36 News they have received threatening text messages from someone using a texting app reading “You’re next.”
The Minks’ daughter created a GoFundMe page to raise enough money to move for their own safety.
Mount Vernon Police have not said if the fires are related, but are calling them suspicious.
The fires happened January 2, 8 and 15, according to investigators.
