Suspected drunk driver arrested after high-speed chase

LONDON, Ky (WTVQ) – London Police say a suspected drunk driver led officers on a high-speed chase from London to Manchester.

Officer Andrew Lawson says he pulled over a driver, at Levi Jackson State Park, Monday afternoon.

Lawson says 53-year-old Michael S. Lewis smelled of alcohol, and Lawson says he saw some open vodka bottles in Lewis’ Chevrolet Aveo.

According to police, Lewis drove off, leading police on a chase on Levi Jackson Mill Road, Main Street, East Fourth Street, Highway 80 East, and Kentucky 687.

State police eventually used stingers to deflate Lewis’ left front tire. But police say Lewis continued on to Highway 421 – even driving through people’s yards at times – before stopping suddenly on a gravel path.

Police say Lewis resisted arrest after he left his vehicle, but officers were able to arrest him. Lewis faces several charges, including driving under the influence, and reckless driving.
