Suspect search puts Lexington schools on heightened alert

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Three schools went on heightened alert Tuesday morning while police searched for a burglary suspect.

Lexington police say they were called to the 200-block of Rand Avenue around 9:42 a.m. for a report of a burglary in progress. While police searched for the suspect, Fayette County Public Schools says William Wells Brown Elementary, Steam Academy and Lexington Traditional Magnet School were all put under heightened alert.

Under a heightened alert, students are kept inside the school and classes continue as normal.

Police did not find the suspect, who they say is a juvenile.

The heightened alert was lifted at all schools by 12:00 p.m.
