Sunshine Returns as Storm Chances Fade
Hot, Mostly Dry Stretch Continues into the Weekend
Mostly Dry Today with a Pop-Up Storm Possible
After a few days with scattered storms and patchy fog, we’re finally getting a break in the action. A ridge of high pressure is sliding in from the west, and that will help squash most of the shower and storm activity across the area today. Expect a mix of sun and clouds with highs climbing into the upper 80s, and some spots could even reach 90°. It’ll feel warm, but not oppressively humid—so while the heat is back, heat index values shouldn’t get out of hand. That said, if you’re spending time outdoors, it’s still smart to pace yourself during the hottest part of the day. One or two isolated storms could still flare up this afternoon, especially across southern and southeastern Kentucky, but most of us stay dry.
Heading Into the Weekend: Hot, Mostly Sunny, and Dry
High pressure remains firmly in control heading into Friday and the weekend, which is great news if you have outdoor plans. Temperatures will continue to run hot, with highs around 90° each day, but again, it won’t be as humid as it was back in July. Skies will stay mostly sunny with just some fair-weather clouds bubbling up during the afternoons. If you’re squeezing in a final summer getaway, heading to the pool, or just checking off your back-to-school shopping list, the weather should cooperate nicely. Just be sure to stay hydrated and use sunscreen—it’ll still be full-blown summer heat out there.
Early Next Week: Holding Onto the Heat Before Storms Return
The hot and mostly dry pattern holds through the weekend and into early next week. Sunday looks very similar to Saturday—hot, mostly sunny, and only a slim chance of a pop-up shower in the afternoon. By Monday, we’ll start to feel a touch more humidity as an approaching cold front from the northwest begins to nudge into the region. This will increase the chance for showers and storms by Tuesday and Wednesday. Until then, enjoy this stretch of quiet August weather—it’s a nice change of pace before rain chances rise again.
