Sunshine, Heat, and a Few Pop-Up Showers Ahead
Warm August days continue with mostly dry weather before storm chances return next week.
High Pressure Brings a Quiet Friday
As we wrap up the week, a high pressure drifting in from the west will set the stage for another pleasant day across central and eastern Kentucky. Expect a mix of sunshine and a few fair-weather clouds, with highs climbing into the upper 80s to around 90°. While most of us stay dry, we could see very isolated afternoon shower or storm chances in some areas. If you happen to be under one, it could briefly drop some heavy rain. Humidity levels will be noticeable at times—enough to remind you it’s still August—but nothing close to the oppressive air we battled in late July. If you’re outdoors for long stretches, pace yourself and stay hydrated.
A Hot and Mostly Dry Weekend
The good news for the final weekend of summer break for many students: the weather looks like it will fully cooperate. Sunshine will be abundant both Saturday and Sunday, with only a slim chance for a pop-up storm this weekend. Highs will nudge into the low 90s, and when you factor in the humidity, heat index values could push into the upper 90s. Perfect pool, lake, or park weather, but don’t forget the sunscreen—and be sure to drink plenty of water if you’re out in the midday heat.
Storm Chances Creep Back Early Next Week
As we head into Monday, we’ll be caught between a wave of low pressure off the East Coast and an approaching cold front from the northwest. That means with the return of a little extra moisture mixed with just enough instability, we could see a few isolated afternoon storms fire across the area, though most of us will stay dry. The front will move closer to our area by Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing a better shot at scattered showers and thunderstorms. With clouds and storms around, highs should ease back a touch into the upper 80s midweek.
