Sunshine and comfortable air continue across Kentucky before weekend humidity and rain chances returns

Dry weather holds through Friday as temperatures climb into the 80s before scattered storms return Sunday

Sunshine and Comfortable Conditions Continue Across Kentucky

It’s another beautiful day across Central and Eastern Kentucky as sunshine and comfortable conditions remain in place. We started Thursday morning with mild temperatures and clear skies, and that trend will continue through much of the day.

A strong area of high pressure remains in control of our weather pattern, keeping skies mostly sunny while continuing to funnel in relatively dry air. While temperatures are beginning to warm up, the lower humidity levels are making it feel much more comfortable than what we typically experience during early June.

This afternoon, highs will climb into the low to mid 80s under plenty of sunshine. A few high clouds may drift overhead at times, but overall it will be another excellent day to spend outdoors.

Warm Nights and Pleasant Evenings

Tonight will remain quiet and comfortable across the region. Skies will stay mostly clear with light winds, allowing temperatures to fall back into the upper 50s and lower 60s by Friday morning.

The combination of clear skies and seasonably mild temperatures will make for another pleasant evening across the Bluegrass.

Friday Brings More Sunshine and Summer-Like Warmth

Friday is shaping up to be another fantastic weather day. High pressure will remain close enough to Kentucky to keep conditions dry while allowing temperatures to warm a bit more.

Expect mostly sunny skies throughout the day with afternoon highs reaching the mid to upper 80s. Southwest winds will increase slightly during the afternoon with occasional gusts approaching 20 mph, but overall conditions will remain calm and enjoyable.

While humidity levels will begin to slowly increase, the truly muggy air will hold off until the weekend.

Weekend Starts Dry Before Rain Chances Return

The first half of the weekend is still looking quite nice. Saturday should remain mostly dry for much of the area despite an increase in cloud cover, especially across northern Kentucky.

Temperatures will continue climbing into the upper 80s, and a few locations could even touch the 90-degree mark for the first time this month. Increasing southwest winds and rising humidity levels will make it feel noticeably more summer-like compared to the comfortable conditions we’ve enjoyed this week.

Humidity and Storm Chances Increase Sunday

By Saturday night and Sunday, moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will begin streaming northward into the Ohio Valley. As that moisture increases, scattered showers and thunderstorms will become possible.

Forecast confidence continues to increase that rain chances will return Sunday and continue into early next week. While this does not appear to be an all-day washout, scattered showers and storms will be possible each afternoon and evening.

The good news is that many hours of dry weather are still expected, but you’ll want to keep an eye on the forecast if you have outdoor plans later this weekend.

Summer Heat Sticks Around Into Next Week

The biggest weather story may actually be the warmth. Temperatures are expected to remain above average through at least the middle of next week.

Highs will continue reaching the upper 80s and lower 90s, while increasing humidity levels will make it feel even warmer at times. Any thunderstorms that develop next week will be capable of producing brief heavy downpours thanks to the increasing moisture in the atmosphere.

For now, enjoy the sunshine and comfortable air while it lasts because a more typical summertime weather pattern is set to return by Sunday.
