Summer-like feel arrives Tuesday afternoon
Hazy and warm conditions are expected through the middle of the week
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – After a comfortable and refreshing start to your Tuesday, temperatures are on a steady climb—and we’re on the cusp of a seasonal milestone. Highs this afternoon will reach into the mid-80s, and we may officially notch our first 85° day of the year in Lexington. That hasn’t happened this late in the season since 2008!
While skies will stay mostly sunny, upper-level wildfire smoke from Canada will continue to drift across the region. This results in a hazy, milky-white tint to the afternoon sky and contributes to those muted sunrises and sunsets you may have noticed. That trend sticks with us for at least another day.
Wednesday brings another summer-like afternoon as highs again push into the mid-80s. You’ll start to feel the humidity inch upward as well. The good news? We stay dry through the day, continuing what has been a well-deserved 4–5 day stretch of rain-free weather for much of the region.
However, that dry stretch starts to break down late Wednesday night as a more active pattern takes hold. A frontal boundary approaching from the northwest will introduce scattered showers and storms late Wednesday night into Thursday. That same front is expected to stall somewhere nearby, keeping rain and storm chances elevated from Thursday through Saturday.
We’ll be closely watching Friday into Friday evening for the potential of heavier rain and possibly stronger storms. While it’s still early to pin down specifics, the setup does look supportive of locally heavy rainfall and a few strong to severe storms. Some spots could pick up 1 to 3 inches of rain by the end of the week, which could lead to localized flooding, especially if storms “train” over the same areas.
As we head into the weekend and next week, the active pattern looks to hang on, with waves of moisture and weak disturbances riding along that stalled front. For now, enjoy the warmth and dry weather while it lasts!
