Students and a local organization preparing for school year

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- August is a busy month with last minute vacations and kids getting ready to go back to school.

While kids prepare for the new academic year, a local organization is also preparing for the school year.

The Kiwanis Club of Lexington has partnered with Harrison Elementary in Lexington for the past 22 years by offering fellowship and holding events for the school community.

The Club holds a “Ready- Fest” for students, families, and teachers as a night of fellowship where Kiwanis provides sandwiches, school supplies, and mentoring for students.

This event is scheduled for Thursday, August 10th from 5-7 PM at Harrison Elementary School cafeteria.

The Kiwanis Club also holds an annual teacher appreciation luncheon to show support and appreciation for teachers and staff of Harrison Elementary School.

The luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, August 15th from 11 AM – 1 PM, in downtown Lexington at the Barrel House, 903 Manchester Street.

The Kiwanis Club of Lexington has been around for 96 years and is the oldest Kiwanis Club in the area.
