Student firefighters help with wildfire
STANTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Due to the dry weather conditions, there have been multiple fires at Daniel Boone National Forest, students with Job Corps have been working to keep those fires contained.
The students involved in the Job Corps Program get hands-on experience in different services.
They are also trained as first responders during local, state and national disasters.
Ashley Williams is a student from Washington DC and she said this experience has been scary but worth it to learn more about being a firefighter.
“I mean they’ve basically helped me with everything I’ve gained so far so I’m pretty much proud of it. so that’s pretty much it. I got a degree, well high school diploma and they helped me get into college, they helped me get my trade certification, CPR and training in the fire forestry so I’m pretty much set.”
Williams said she hopes to one day work a seasonal job with the fire forestry.
