Student arrested over gun threat at Whitley Co. Central

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – An internet chat rumor about a student with a gun on campus prompted Williamsburg police to place Whitley Co. Central Campus and Williamsburg Independent School on lockdown Thursday.

The Whitley Co. superintendent says he was alerted around 10:00 a.m. that the Whitley Co. 911 had received a report that someone in an online chatroom said there was a gun on campus.  The Sheriff’s Department, along with Kentucky State Police, and Whitley Co. Emergency Management responded to the schools, placing them on lockdown.  Meanwhile, Whitley Co. schools technology department determined the IP address of where the comments had originated.

Authorities say they did not find any weapon on the campus, but did take one student into custody.  The lockdown ended around 11:15 a.m.
