Strong-to-severe storm threat Wednesday

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Wednesday! We are tracking the risk of strong-to-severe storms in the forecast today. Most of central and eastern Kentucky has a Level 2 Severe Risk. The main threat will be damaging wind gusts, while isolated large hail and localized flooding in the heaviest downpours will also be possible. The timeframe of the strongest storms will be during the afternoon and early evening.

This is all ahead of a passing cold front that will push through the region after the storms exit tonight. On the heals of this passing front will be another shot of seasonably pleasant conditions on Thursday. Afternoon highs on Thursday will reach the mid-80s for most areas, very similar to the day on Monday.

We quickly heat back-up on Friday, reaching the low 90s. This warm-up will be accompanied by an increase in humidity. It will be muggy Friday and Friday night. Overnight lows Friday night may not make it lower than the mid-70s. This warmth and humidity will lead to more storms late Saturday into Sunday. There is a risk that some of those storms may be strong-to-severe as well.

This is ahead of another shot of refreshing air on Monday of next week. This will be the “coolest” shot of air yet, with temperatures falling into the 50s for many areas Monday morning. Afternoon highs will struggle to make it to the low 80s. However, this is short lived. We will be warming right back up by the middle of next week.

Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.
