Stormy Stretch Ahead After Sizzling Weekend

Humidity climbs, storm chances increase, and the umbrellas come back out for the week ahead.

Sunday Brought the Heat—and a Hint of What’s to Come
It was another steamy July day across Central and Eastern Kentucky as temperatures soared into the low to mid-90s. Combine that with increasing humidity and we saw heat index values flirting with or even topping 100° in some spots. We also saw the return of isolated showers and storms, a preview of the more unsettled pattern that’s shaping up for the week ahead. While Sunday evening storms will fade out into the overnight hours, the rain chances ramp back up starting Monday.

More Humidity + Stalled Front = Scattered Storms
A frontal boundary dropping into the Ohio Valley will stall out over the region and act like a spark for scattered showers and thunderstorms—not just Monday, but for several days in a row. With abundant moisture in place, storms will be capable of locally heavy rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. The good news? Widespread severe weather is not expected, and no day looks like a total washout. But you’ll want to keep the rain gear handy as this unsettled pattern lingers through midweek.

Still Feeling Summery Despite the Storms
Temperatures will back off slightly but remain seasonably warm, with highs generally in the upper 80s through the week. Overnight lows won’t offer much relief either, staying in the low 70s, so expect some muggy nights ahead. Heat index values will still climb into the mid and upper 90s during the day, especially when the sun breaks through between storms. It’s the classic “dog days” of summer—warm, sticky, and stormy.
