Storm causes people to lose vehicles in Harlan Co.

HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- Harlan County Judge Executive Dan Mosley declared a state of emergency Wednesday due to a flash flood that damaged part of the county.

Mosley says he declared a state of emergency due to the loss of infrastructure including but not limited to road damage, water and sewer line damage, and damage to private property.

Two people lost vehicles as a result of the flooding. There were no injuries or deaths.

Residents told Mosley the situation as the most scary they’ve ever witnessed.

Mosley says a road in Evarts collapsed, which took out a portion of water line in the City of Evarts. Crews will be working today to get this repaired as quickly as possible.

You can report damage caused by the flash flood event to Emergency Management at 573-6082.
