State’s COVID positivity rate below 9% for second straight day

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – The state’s new COVID case numbers continue the slow decline and the positivity rate remained below 9%.

According to its Friday report, the state announced 2,145 new cases Friday, well below the 2,625 announced Thursday. Of Friday’s new cases, 584 were in people 18 and under.

The positivity rate fell from 8.67% Thursday to 8.49%. It was 9.11% Wednesday.

The new cases pushed the state’s total to 710,364.

The state also announced 31 deaths. The state now has lost 9,053 people to COVID-related causes.

Other indicators are down as well.

The number of people in the hospital went down to 1,514 from 1,578 Thursday, 1,995 on Wednesday, 1,677 on Tuesday and 1,668 on Monday.

The number of people in intensive care fell to 466 Friday, down from 472 Thursday, 573 on Wednesday, Tuesday’s 494 and Monday’s 496.

The same goes for the number of people on a ventilator with 310 people reported Friday, down slightly from 313 reported, but more significantly from 384 reported Wednesday and 323 on Tuesday.
