State Capitol to close as massive renovation project begins

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Kentucky State Capitol will close to the public Wednesday as the construction phase begins on a nearly $300 million renovation project.

According to officials, this marks the first major overhaul of the historic building in more than 70 years. Several government offices will be relocated during the multi-year project to allow work to proceed.

Meanwhile, the Kentucky Supreme Court will temporarily hold proceedings in other counties. Justices are scheduled to hear oral arguments Wednesday and Thursday in Lexington at the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse downtown.
