Somerset man killed in violent three car crash

SOMERSET, Ky. (WTVQ) – An elderly Somerset man died in a three car crash in Pulaski County Friday morning, according to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say it happened just before 10:00 a.m. on Highway 461.

The preliminary investigation shows that 39-year old Larry Murray, of Lexington, was southbound on Highway 461 in a 2006 Ford pickup truck.  Deputies say the truck apparently drifted over the centerline and sideswiped a northbound 2016 Kenworth tractor trailer driven by 41-year old Anthony Orr, of Monticello.

Investigators say after contact was made between the pickup and semi, the pickup continued southbound and collided with a 2012 Kia head-on.  The Kia was driven by 80-year old Wilford Purcell, of Somerset.  He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to investigators.

Deputies say Larry Murray and a passenger in his pickup truck, Shawn Conk, of Lexington, were airlifted from the scene to UK Hospital in Lexington.

The semi driver wasn’t hurt.

The deadly crash is still under investigation.
