Snow Causes Havoc For Monday Morning Drivers
Roads in most places throughout the Bluegrass became covered in snow, adding to a thin layer of ice that had already formed late Sunday night.
Road crews and private contractors worked to keep interstates and roads cleared, but quick-falling snow caused already cleared roadways to become recovered in snow.
Lexington Police officials said between 10 p.m. Sunday and 4:30 a.m. Monday officers responded to 17 non-injury accidents.
According to Kentucky State Police officials in Frankfort, they believe many people throughout the region were staying off the slick roads. Troopers were not responding to as many accidents as expected, they said.
Police officials suggested people stay home Monday so road crews could work as quickly as possible to get roadways cleared.
If you have to go out, use extreme caution, they said. Precautions like increasing stopping distance and using slower speeds will help make sure you get to your destination as safely as possible.
