Small Business Saturday Comes to Lexington
This Saturday was ‘Small Business Saturday’ a day when local stores and restaurants are promoted and have many deals similar to the day before ‘Black Friday."
The concept of ‘Small Business Saturday’ started about three years ago when companies like American Express started offering deals and gift cards to local stores.
Now many shoppers extend their holiday shopping beyond Friday, into the weekend, shopping locally.
Shoppers in Lexington say they like the idea of directly helping the local economy and say there are gifts to be found at the local stores that you may not find at major retailers.
Local store owners say this is one of their most profitable days out of the year.
Some stores have even extended ‘Small Business Saturday’ to the entire weekend.
